try sprayin some starter fluid or something around the intake and the carb base,  may have a vacuum leak,  or as BS said,   carb would be the only other thing causing that,    swap with a known good carb,  not another one thats been sitting on a shelf for years,  if spraying it down doesnt work

usally if one side is much hotter then other somthing in carb circut is blocked, no beer is the other issue...... must have beer, lol

check your plugs,  dont just guess,   and very strange to be burning up and melting plug wire seperators.    and also wierd to have your floor boards so hot they are melting your rubber floor mats,   also have no idea why one side would be fine,  and the other way hot to that point,   take some readings on the temp of the header tubes with a temp gun,  again,  dont just guess at what the temps are,    could just be the way the exhaust is routed?

Figured it was running rich judging from the black smoke out the pipes when i floor it !

Your not running rich , your actually running way too lean! your timing may be alittle on the hot side too! how big is the cam, and whats the carb?
